  • Assists with Life Saving Rules (LSR) audits of plant facilities regulated under OSHA.
  • Assists accident investigation and root-cause analysis to ensure unsafe conditions/behavior are not repeated.
  • Occasionally operate Ready Mix trucks in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT), TXDOT, FMSCA and Texas Materials/CRH Health and Safety Manual.
  • Attends and speaks at safety meetings providing insight on safety trends out in the field.
  • Conducts jobsite safety set ups, spot checks, analyses, and safety concerns on high-risk, high-profile jobs.
  • Observe workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators, clothing, and other PPE.
  • Provide health andsafety support to Senior Safety Manager.
  • Weekend on-call is required.
  • Conducts new hire orientation training to include SMITH Driving System.
  • Coordinates and maintains good relationships with customers, drivers, plant and operations managers, sales and dispatch teams.
  • Exercises good safety judgment and communication regarding jobsite safety.
  • Final certifier on driver check rides and provides feedback to operations management.
  • Conducts Job Site Hazard Analysis (sends report to communicate to fleet).
  • Completes weekly reports on safety activities conducted.
  • Identifies negative safety trends in the field and assists Senior Safety Manager with corrective action plan.
  • Conducts quarterly safety blitzes, builds reports and provides feedback to all field personnel.
  • Reviews monthly driver reports (evaluate, assess, ride along and coach).
  • Overnight travel is possible.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • At least 1 year of concrete construction and/or industrial safety experience.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations.
  • Possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). 
  • Strong knowledge of ready-mix concrete products.
  • Recommended by operations management.
  • Excellent driving, safety and attendance record.
  • Maintain an active DOT qualification.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour training (within 6 months).
  • ACI field grade I certification (within 1 year).
  • First Aid CPR Certified (within 6 months).
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measures.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Must be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal.
  • Able to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful manner.
  • Be able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of SEE, STOP, DO to the forefront.
  • Self-motivator with an open mind and positive attitude.
  • Exemplifies leadership qualities and the ability to perform well in a team environment.
  • 2 years’ experience in the concrete industry, 3 years preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of concrete products.
  • Certified Smith System Instructor.
  • ACI Field Grade 1 Technician.
  • OSHA 10 and 30 Hour (General and Construction).
  • First Aid CPR Certified.
  • Smith System Certified Trainer.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Solid training/teaching experience.
  • Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize a computer and iPad for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are required.
  • Periodic, but extensive walking and standing required.
  • Must also be able to drive a vehicle and walk uneven terrain.
  • May require periodically lifting objects up to 40 lbs.
  • May be exposed to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather.
  • 20% of time is spent in an air-conditioned classroom environment.  Additionally, another 60% with occasional outside assignments which require short periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and may have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel exhaust, etc.  The remaining 20% is spent in an air-conditioned office conducting clerical work.
