Key responsibilities (essential duties and functions)

  • Assist construction site workers in grading and underground operations
  • Interpret survey stakes and plans to provide control ahead of grading and underground operations
  • Inform the foreman of discrepancies between the plans and site conditions
  • Collaborate with foreman to maintain as-built drawings
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSHA guidelines
  • Interact with customers and document any changes to scope of work
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with a team
  • Strong work ethic

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Five (5) or more years of construction experience encompassing major sitework, utilities and strong grading background. 
  • GPS experience a plus (not required)
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Knowledge of slopes and lasers.
  • Ability to read stakes. 
  • Ability to think ahead, anticipate potential situations and provide effective solutions to conflicts that arise during the course of business.
  • Familiarity with local site conditions, agency standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and documents. 
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and perform tasks and duties without immediate supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to wear and use proper PPE at all times.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching and climbing
  • Position will occasionally require climbing of ladders and steps. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
