  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. 
  • Supervises the receiving of raw materials such as coal, pet coke, gypsum, mill scale, sandstone, bottom ash, clay, fly ash and clinker.
  • Reviews and inspects raw materials truck scales daily and is responsible for maintenance and repairs of this equipment.
  • Prepares required reports and other documentation on material receiving activities as requested by plant management.
  • Monitors and maintains records of attendance for department employees.
  • Maintains and upkeeps of the railroad track system.
  • Manages the rail and track maintenance budget towards maximum utilization towards continuous functionality of the system
  • Oversees contractors working on rail and track system.
  • Manages the locomotive and switchman training activities.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory levels of fuels and raw materials. Assumes responsibility as primary contact with vendors.
  • Inspects plant on foot and by vehicle to observe any jobs that need to be completed regarding the maintenance of department buildings and grounds.
  • Coordinates with other department supervisors all railroad car switching, including liquid waste derived fuel tanks, cement hoppers and raw material hoppers.
  • Coordinates all railroad car switching including coal / coke, gypsum, and cement including releasing railcars to railroad to avoid demurrage.
  • Attends Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training for waste derived fuel activity.
  • Participates as a member of the Plant's Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Oversees Cement Kiln Dusty (CKD) system and that maintenance is completed by Material Handlers and work requests are generated when repairs/maintenance.
  • Ensures that the requested type of cement is shipped to each customer in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Works with sales to assure high standards in customer service and building customer relationships.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.  
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. 
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing similar or related duties at a cement plant.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to regularly make decisions and exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
  • Ability to lead/manage others
  • Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently
  • Knowledge of all cement plant operations and general types of cement processed
  • Knowledge of all heavy equipment, tools and other types of equipment
  • Knowledge of loading, shipping and silo operations and equipment necessary to ship the specified type of cement to the correct customer in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to use a personal computer to input, store and retrieve shipping data.
  • Ability to understand how to use a switch engine, loader, and forklift
  • Ability to move around all plant areas, some of which are only accessible by foot.
  • Ability to work under general supervision with specified standards and objectives. Refers to supervisor when in serious doubt as to the proper procedure for a specified action.
