  • Cultivate and develop opportunities to incorporate safe work practices into daily working routine; assist others in identifying and adhering to established safety procedures; be mindful of potential safety issues and report them immediately to a Supervisor, Safety Committee member or Group Health & Safety Manager

  • Ensure employee compliance with all company policies and procedures to create a safe work environment for all staff, visitors and the general public
  • Provide ongoing and re-training of employees as and where necessary
  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and maintain safety records as necessary
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and regular risk assessments with appropriate follow up
  • Ensures compliance by documenting all incidents, accidents, near misses, WCB claims and injuries as required by various governing agencies and internal Environment, Health & Safety Manager
  • Communicates regularly with the Group Health & Safety Manager to promote best practices within the company
  • Implements the Expocrete Health and Safety annual compliance plan and ensures the schedule is maintained
  • Manage production and inventory to maintain required levels of finished goods to supply all customers in a timely manner
  • Ensure accuracy of inventories to include finished goods, raw materials and resale items
  • Manage inventory value to budgeted levels
  • Ensuring the accuracy of product specification
  • Checking the suitability and quality of materials and all related operations during the production process through to the final quality check and dispatch
  • Review and make recommendations for the efficient operation of each area under supervision
  • Work across the production cycle to ensure the flow of work meets customer deadlines
  • Allocate and oversee the work of the production team in order to meet operational deadlines and/or cover for absences
  • Maintain stocks of materials and consumables and their appropriate storage as required.  Ensure cost effective use of such materials in production process
  • In collaboration with VP Operations, input and maintain accurate cost information (hourly rates, materials, etc.) into the management information system ensuring it is up to date
  • Provide information, analysis and reporting on a regular and ad-hoc basis
  • Recruit or assist in the recruitment of new employees
  • Work closely with the VP Operations to produce and review individual/team performance
  • In conjunction with the VP Operations prepare efficient and workable rosters for production and/or yard staff
  • Coordination and supervision of staff training
  • Manage staff leave (including vacations) and working arrangements to ensure sufficient staffing levels for forecasted production targets
  • Reviews and approves timecards for payroll
  • Oversees and mentors the production unit by providing leadership through the use of best practices in recruitment, retention, employee development, job enrichment/assignment initiatives and may assist in departmental succession planning.  Also coaches employees by providing performance & absenteeism improvement plans; training & development opportunities; and creating an environment of positive employee relations
  • Will act as the company representative when a union is present, handle & resolves grievances, and in collaborative with Human Resources negotiate union contracts
  • Ensure all production equipment is maintained and serviced in a proper, timely manner
  • Mandates good housekeeping practices to maintain optimum performance of machinery and plant
  • Follows and implements the Oldcastle’s Five Plant Fundamentals position knowledge
  • Previous knowledge of production equipment is a desirable asset
  • Basic knowledge of wet-cast, dry-cast and concrete production processes
  • Working knowledge of block machines and paver machines
  • Good mechanical and electrical skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of ERP systems
  • Knowledge of scheduling and planning techniques and methods in a make to stock environment
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills
  • Proficient use of basic computer software such as Microsoft Office Products, Internet, Email
  • High school diploma
  • Post secondary education in the engineering field or as a skilled tradesperson would be an asset
  • 5+ years of experience in a management or supervisory position
  • Proven time management, planning and scheduling skills
