  • Involved daily in the production and quality needs of the Southwest region as it relates to Premium Soils
  • Hands-on supervisor with flexible working hours based on product and customer demands
  • Supervise, direct, and coach quality control employees in both regions who are responsible for enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (SOP’s – VOP’s) and other quality-related policies to meet product quality standards
  • Review Production Batch Records and other manufacturing-related documents to verify compliance and record keeping for all mandated manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, sampling, and sanitation activities
  • Heavily involved with Raw Material Management, inventory of chemicals, peat and bark
  • Audit quality control of raw materials, packaging components, labels, and finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory standards
  • Works with internal and external suppliers to develop testing methods and meeting quality standards
  • Promote and follow quality product standards, manufacturing capability and customer requirements
  • Works closely with members of management, sales and operators to develop those requirements
  • Maintain and develop inspection standards to ensure finished products meet established quality criteria 1 Continuously update product quality documentation system and quality assurance procedures
  • Ensure established product quality standards are understood and systems are established to verify compliance and associate’s capability to delivery upon those requirements
  • Proactively identify areas where product quality and supporting systems requires corrective action
  • When necessary, implement corrective action plans and monitor the effectiveness of the solutions
  • Oversee the “On Hold” product program, including the status, release, and destruction of “Rejected” products
  • Assist in investigating and correcting quality-related issues (including customer complaints) through collaboration with other departments (8-D’s and PDCA)
  • Make proactive recommendations and offering/presenting solutions to the Quality Systems to improve quality and work efficiency
  • Share knowledge, skills, and information with other personnel in the Quality Systems & Compliance Department and across functional areas. Supervisor the Training of the Workforce- Utilizing a trainer
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, operating procedures, quality systems and programs which ensure proper testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical support to meet product quality standards
  • Participate in all new product launches, regulatory, third party and customer audits and inspections, and corrective action response
  • Maintain a fair and professional work environment that focuses on the business objectives, but also balances quality of work-life factors for employees
  • Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Oversight and testing of product formulations
  • Inspection, testing and approval of all incoming raw materials and finished goods
  • Follow all established specifications and processes
  • Alert the manager to correct and deviations
  • Periodically weigh bag samples to ensure quality product
  • Record data accurately and completed in Quality Control Log
  • Evaluate data
  • Participate in out-of- specification and failure investigations, recommend corrective actions and investigate and resolve any customer grievances
  • Provide/produce and prepare samples for sales as needed
  • Adapt to change and overcome resistance
  • High School degree required; Associate degree or higher preferred
  • 3+ years supervisory experience preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to read and follow step by step instructions and operations manuals Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Adequate computer skills; Microsoft Office, Excel
  • Experience with lab and testing procedures preferred
  • Some experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Horticulture, growing experience, or gardening is a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure (in an extremely fast paced environment), meet deadlines (overtime work required) and make effective decisions
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to details
  • Strong collaborator and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Must be able to effectively communicate ideas (verbally and in writing), be an initiative-taker and handle difficult reporting situations
  • Physically located in or around the Hope, AR area or lives close enough to be able to drive to Hope, AR within 4-5 hours
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear
  • The employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time
  • The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. from the ground level. The need to lift over 50 lbs. may arise from time to time – should this be the case; employees should engage in team lifting and/or use the provided equipment to safely lift
  • The employee must have the capability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and your whole body –bending, crouching, climbing - using steps and ladders, pushing pulling, stooping and reaching
  • The employee must be able to work in varying conditions across our sites in the L&G Southwest. Those conditions are often dusty, dirty, muddy, hot, cold, wet, and noisy
