Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Spend time at our construction sites, aggregates, asphalt, and ready mix plants to learn the fundamentals of production and gain an understanding of various mechanical, maintenance, and production operations
- Collate data, establish process correlations and develop strategies for capital projects
- Will be assigned to a real job/task and expected to make a contribution that will have an impact on the business
- Utilize various skill sets/knowledge during day-to-day operations and to achieve team/company goals
- Create a presentation at the end of your internship to executive leadership regarding what you have learned and what you believe you have contributed to the business
- In this internship position, you will spend time working in one of our aggregate environments (quarry, surface mine, underground mine, construction site, ready-mix plant)
- Understand compliance requirements for our operations to meet federal and state regulations including MSHA and OSHA etc.
- Support the safety goals and processes of the company.
- Understand how crew and scheduling efficiency is instrumental to achieve project goals.
- Understand project profitability (revenue/costs).
- Learn accounts receivable and billing.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited trade school, college or university and in good academic standing.
- Professionalism with ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain discretion concerning confidential information.
- Computer proficiency
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures per company policy.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements, i.e., DL/CDL, Class A and/or B Driver with possible hazmat and tanker endorsements.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes.
- Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Understanding of procurement’s impact on financial results.
- Able to use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, crawl, kneel, and bend.
- Able to climb ladders and to work at heights.
- Able to occasionally move/carry objects up to 100 lbs. unassisted.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
- The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but is typically moderate.
